The Slice of Shameika - Blog Post

Our Modern Tiny House from HGTV in Nashville!

Thanks to COVID-19, my husband and I never got the “honeymoon” we always planned for. We ended up booking a random flight to a random city just to have time to ourselves in a different city. We chose Nashville because of all the positive things that we have heard in regards to food and fun. Justin and I wanted to experience “different” so why not continue the theme of it with our lodging situation. WE BOOKED A TINY HOUSE!

What is a tiny house? According to Livingbiginatinyhouse.com, “Traditionally, these tiny houses are around 2.4 x 5 meters. They contain a living area, sleeping loft, kitchen, and bathroom and are constructed to fit a trailer so they can be easily moved. For this reason, the Tiny House revolutionizes homeownership, as it allows people to own their own house, without needing to own the land that it sits on.  It is possible to build these homes to be entirely self-contained and off-grid, generating their own water, and electricity.”

I have had nothing but great reviews with Airbnb’s from my previous travel experiences so I thought it was a great idea to look for something that was actually a rare find. What’s a rare find? On Airbnb, a rare find is a housing situation that is normally booked quickly and it’s rare that it is available for most dates. We found the Tiny House that was featured on HGTV and thankfully it was open for our dates!

According to our Airbnb listing, “This house is a MODERN Tiny Home, nestled in the Nashville woods. It features a full kitchen, bathroom, 1 lofted queen bed, 1 lofted twin bed, and lounge area. This home is a secluded oasis on 5 acres of private property, yet minutes from shopping, restaurants, Percy Priest Lake, and fun attractions. It's 10 minutes to Downtown and 10 minutes from the airport.”

The house had all your “needs”. My husband and I were laughing because if we woke up too fast, we know for a fact that we would bang our head on the top of the roof. Since it is in the woods, there will be bugs in your tiny house. Let’s be real about that. However, it is not as bad as you think. Just remember to keep the windows closed or they for sure will come in. As stated on the welcome packet, there are some “friends” in the woods also such as a family of deer, wild turkeys, and “more”. Nothing to be afraid of honestly but just be cautious.

Waking up to the scenery of the woods in the fall was breathtaking. It really brought me a feeling of peace especially during the times we live in. The air also felt very crisp when you walked outside. A cool thing about this Airbnb is that the host provided snacks and items to help make smores. THERE IS A CAMPFIRE!

The downside of the whole stay was arriving at this location for the FIRST time when it got dark. Let me give a quick reminder that it’s IN the woods. I used my iPhone flashlight to make sure I didn’t trip (just know I still did). We had to walk on a path about 100 ft from where we parked to the actual door. I was freaking out but made it through. I saw too many scary movies to be “calm”. There is a main house on this property which is part of Nashville's country music royalty landmarks as it had recorded Dolly, George Jones, Tim Mcgraw, and many other established famous musicians. Lights were on and there were cars parked at it, so it made me a liiiiittle bit more comfortable just for emergency purposes.

Two questions people were asking us:

“Do you have cell service”

  • Yes we did

“Is there Wifi?”

  • Yes there is

Overall, the experience at the Tiny House was a memorable one. We know for sure that we do not want to own a Tiny House however, when would we ever stay at one? My previous experience with Tiny Houses is just watching them on TV or walking through a random model home at an event. But STAAAAAYING .. in a Tiny House for two days is different and I believe that everyone should experience it at least once in their lifetime!
