The Nashville Hot Chicken in Houston!
We have recently taken a trip to Nashville and my husband and I were craving Nashville Hot Chicken this month! He randomly said, “Hey, I have a new place to try,” and we went to a spot I never heard of, Mico’s Hot Chicken.
ABOUT MICO’S HOT CHICKEN:
This Black-owned business first sold their first meal out of a food trailer in June 2019 and Houston responded to the flavors of the chicken! The owner of Mico’s loved spicy food and never heard of the Hot Chicken. Her and her husband took a trip to Nashville to taste a variety and the rest is history!
MY EXPERIENCE:
I was very excited to try this place even if I heard of it 5 minutes before we got in the car. Located inside of the North Loop of Houston, Mico’s is located on a corner lot and you can’t miss it! When you actually look at the building, it looks like an old gas station which is very cool. Then as you walk around you can see the area where gas was actually let in.
A cool thing about Mico’s Hot Chicken is that it is DOG FRIENDLY! When I walked in, I saw there were dog bowls which is a CLEAR sign I can bring my pup next time I come. There are also fun yards games to play and a small kid area. A great family spot.
I checked online for the menu and also saw there was a menu on the glass of the main worker entrance. You can choose from:
Animal Fries
The Sammich
Tenders Basket
Each of those meals allows you to choose from different heat levels that can make or break your meal due to your tastebuds.
As we waited for our food, we picked a bench area to sit at located near a heater. Since it is outdoor only, it is very nice of Mico’s to provide heat, especially during the colder months.
Our food was ready after about 15 minutes! I ended up getting The Sammich with hot sauce and my husband got the Tenders Basket, medium. We both shared a basket of Animal Fries which consisted of waffle fries, melted cheese, Mico’s Sauce, chicken, and chives. We ended up getting this medium! Long story short, we ordered all the meals we could to get this experience up and running!
The Sammich was really good. The batter had the perfect crunch and seasonings. The “hot” wasn’t overpowering which I loved. I kept wanting to eat more and more. The way that the seasoning was on the chicken reminded me of our trip to Hattie B’s in Nashville! I love the way that the pickle was THICK and the homemade slaw made the perfect combination on the sandwich. The bun was perfectly toasted.
The Animal Fries were really good too! I only had a couple of bites of that because I was getting full from the sandwich. I tasted the tenders and they also had a perfect crunch to them!
I know for sure, we will be back when we are craving a Nashville Hot in the city. I definitely recommend Mico’s Hot Chicken! Houston made, Nashville inspired!
