Crispy Filipino Lumpia Freeflow Recipe

Crispy Filipino Lumpia Freeflow Recipe

Lumpia is always a fun time!

Every holiday calls for Lumpia! No matter the celebration, there is always lumpia! Being half Filipina, I remember the days when my mom & her friends would have rolling parties. All the moms got together and chatted while rolling lumpia, and the kids played somewhere else in the house. It would be a lot of laughing and memories made.

No matter the gathering, Filipinos will have lumpia! It’s a staple in our culture.

I hadn’t made it by myself as an adult, so I called my mom for about a week to bug her for help, and she did.

Few Pointers + Extra Notes

  • Use a food processor if you have one.

  • Make sure your lumpia wrapper is defrosted but keep it covered with a damp towel so it doesn’t dry up

  • I don’t measure my ingredients (I know, sorry). I eye-level everything & do a meat taste test after mixing. What is that? Take a small sample, fry it in a skillet, and see how it tastes. Do I need to add more pepper? Are we good? Yeah.

  • My 3 lbs of protein made about 60 rolls of lumpia.

Ingredients:

  • Your choice of protein (I used pork in this video, but I also did ground turkey during my second shift)

  • Minced Red Onion

  • Minced Carrots

  • Minced Parsley

  • Minced Celery

  • Sesame Oil

  • Black Pepper

  • Onion Powder

  • Garlic Powder

  • Salt

  • Eggs (I had 3 lbs of protein, so I used two eggs; you need another egg to seal your wrapper.)

  • Spring Roll Wrapper

  • Cooking Oil (I used vegetable oil)

Optional Items:

  • Gloves

  • Gallon Bag

  • Scissors

  • Sweet and Sour Sauce

Directions:

  1. Take out your spring roll wrapper from the freezer. Ensure your lumpia wrapper is defrosted, but keep it covered with a damp towel so it doesn’t dry up. Cut the diagonal into two triangles.

  2. Put your protein in a bowl and mix with all ingredients. I prefer using my hands but remember to wear gloves if you do.

  3. Do a small taste test by frying a spoon in a skillet (not in the video). Once satisfied with the taste, it’s time to roll!

  4. Take a gallon ziplock and cut the corner. It must be the size of your finger.

  5. Get a small bowl and beat one egg to help seal your wrapper

  6. Add meat mixture on the spring roll, but leave the edges open.

  7. Fold and tuck up

  8. Fold both sides like an envelope

  9. Roll and add egg from the bowl to seal

  10. Repeat steps as needed

How To Cook:

  • Preheat pot with cooking oil

  • Put your lumpia in a pot

  • Rotate until golden brown

  • Serve with Sweet and Sour Sauce

  • Enjoy
